Abstract

It has been more important for dentist to diagnose and manage oral opportunistic infection because our country has become an aging society for medical improvements and raised standard of living nowadays. Especially, oral candidiasis and oral herpes simplex infection are more prevalent in immunocompromised patients such as cancer chemotherapy and transplantation patients. In these cases, oral infections are more severe and atypical pattern in immunocompromised patients than these of immunocompetent patients, when superimposition of infections exists, it is more difficult to diagnose differentially and to treat early, it can be susceptible to systemic infection. Many of these patients have multiple medications, caution is needed to prescribe medication for drug-drug interaction.
Author experienced a superimposed case of hyperplastic candidiasis over oral herpes simplex ulcer, it was difficult to diagnose correctly for necrosis of superficial layer of candida tissue, it was finally diagnosed by biopsy. It may be first report about the necrosis of the oral hyperplastic candida, this report will be helpful for the diagnosis and treatment of the oral opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients
